I’m taking on the queen herself in this review… Ms. Whitney Simmons! We all know and love Whitney (at least parasocially…) but I’d never tried out any of her Gymshark collections before this. I was excited, but also very skeptical about these pieces. *I’ll get more into why below* But I wanted to answer all your burning questions about her latest launch: 1. Is it worth the hype? 2. True to size? 3. Squat proof? I’ll get into all of that below throughout this honest Gymshark x Whitney Simmons review.
Gymshark x Whitney Simmons Review (My Skepticism)
I was skeptical about this collection because I feel like Whitney Simmons is EVERYWHERE. Partnered with every brand, launching Gymshark collections left and right, running her own clothing line, and still making time for social media.
I’m thinking, “How does this girl have time to breathe?!?” It seems incredibly overwhelming to me and makes me question how great the collections really are when she’s seemingly stretched so thin.
However, her presence on social media is undeniably positive and it seems like she brings light to everything she does. So even though I felt skeptical, I was still drawn to this collection and wanted to support her. Also, the pieces are so dang cute!
A couple of other things I was curious about:
- Are they actually soft/comfy? If so, is the material going to hold up?
- Are the shorts squat proof?
- Is the unbleached color going to be see-through?
I’ll get into all of these questions below! If you’d rather watch the video version of this, I recorded a full try-on and my honest opinions here 👇

Are These Pieces True to Size?
The main reason I’m afraid to buy clothes online is always this question. Even after reading a website’s “fit guide” I’ve still had way too many online pieces that fit completely wrong. So I’d much rather see a review from an *actual person* on how the fit is.
mesh shorts
The shorts fit me perfectly. I have bigger thighs and a smaller waist (proportionally) so it’s often hard to find bottoms that fit well. These shorts pulled in at the waist and were stretchy and comfy in the thighs, which is ideal for my body type.
Plus, with how stretchy and soft the material is, I think they’d fit most body types.
I always buy a medium in Gymshark shorts/leggings, which is what I bought here. The medium was perfect, so I’d say they’re definitely true to size.
mesh sports bra
The sports bras are where it gets tricky for me when it comes to sizing. I have small boobs, so I’d always buy small sports bras for the longest time. Until I realized that small sports bras (especially in popular brands like Gymshark) squeeze the life out of my back and armpit area.
The past few launches (AYBL, Gymshark, etc.) I’ve switched over to buying medium sports bras instead. And I’ve absolutely loved the fit of almost every one I’ve bought so far.
Until this one.
I’d say I love 95% about this sports bra, and the fit was almost there. But since I have smaller boobs, there was a weird wrinkly section at the bottom of the bra.
However, the bra fit perfectly everywhere else, so I wouldn’t have wanted to size down.
This wrinkly section isn’t terrible and if you stand up completely straight, it’s not really noticeable. It’s just when you hunch over at all (which ik ik, I shouldn’t be doing anyway) that the wrinkly part comes out.
Watch the sports bra section of the video for a visual of this, if my description isn’t making sense.
But overall, the fit was great besides that one part.
I’d recommend staying true to size, but if you’re in between sizes, maybe size down. Honestly, if you don’t mind dealing with returns, I’d say buy 2 sizes and return the one that doesn’t fit. I wish I’d done that at this point and will probably do so for the next Gymshark x Whitney Simmons collection that graces our Instagram feeds.
oversized t-shirt
The oversized t-shirt fit, well… Like an oversized t-shirt.
Definitely buy your regular t-shirt size in this because it’s made to be oversized. You don’t need to size up here.
I normally wear small t-shirts and dresses, so I bought a small in this shirt. It fit really well!
Whitney Mesh Shorts (dandelion brown)
I absolutely love these shorts. If you want a good laugh, watch my video review of these where I accidentally wore the shorts backwards for the ENTIRE video. *facepalm*
There’s no tag on the back of the shorts, so apparently, I just pulled them on the wrong way. And somehow didn’t notice until I was in the final stages of editing the video and it was too late to turn back and re-film.
Anywho, I digress…
The shorts are so freaking soft and I could wear them to the gym, around the house, or to sleep. That’s how comfy they are.
The detailing is cute, with the little gold bar and lines down the front, and her “it’s a beautiful day to be alive” quote in the back.
Would I recommend these shorts? Heck yes. I wish I’d bought a pair in every color. But they’re $40 each so that’s a little unrealistic. 😉
Squat Proof?
They were 100% squat proof (even somehow when I was wearing them backwards… which I’d say is a double win?)
I can’t speak on any of the lighter colors, only the dandelion brown. But these ones were great in this department.
I highly doubt the lighter colors like pollen (the pastel yellow color) are 100% squat proof, because of their color and the soft/thin material. But don’t quote me on that because I haven’t tried them. I always tend to stick to darker colors in shorts and leggings, especially if I know I’ll be wearing them on leg day.
vs. other gymshark bike shorts
Material-wise, these were incomparable to any other Gymshark collection. They’re way softer and incredibly comfortable.
Fit-wise, I’d say these are most like the Adapt collection, which I’m also in love with the fit of.
These are one of my favorite pairs of Gymshark shorts so far, tied for first with the Adapt Camo. I also love the Vital Seamless 2.0, and low-key hated the Mercury, but I cut the tags off too soon so I couldn’t return them.
If this is your first time buying from Gymshark and don’t know where to start, I’d say this is a great option. Especially if you’re looking for a soft/buttery feel.
The only negative thing I’d say about these shorts is that they didn’t have a ton of compression. Which I don’t mind, because I don’t like shorts or leggings with a lot of compression anyway. I think they’re uncomfortable and would rather be comfy. But if compression is what you’re looking for, I’d look to another collection.
Whitney Mesh Sports Bra (unbleached)
I already talked about the fit issues in the “true to size” section above. But other than that, I’m absolutely in love with this sports bra.
The “unbleached” color is a light cream color that’s absolutely gorgeous. The only issue with the color is that it’s a little see-through. Not see-through like you can fully see through it, but you’re going to see a little nip action.
I thought that since it was double layered, this wouldn’t be the case (even though these bras don’t come with pads.) But it definitely shows through a bit.
If you don’t want anything showing through, you can always throw a top over it (or buy a different collection.) There are other Gymshark collections with much thicker material (like the Fleck collection, which I’m going to be reviewing in the next few weeks) that’d be a better option in that case.
vs. other gymshark sports bras
The comfort factor of this bra was 100x better than other Gymshark bras I’ve worn. Most of their bras have a lot more compression, so it was nice to have a little more freedom with this one. The buttery soft material doesn’t hurt either.
The detailing is very pretty, as well, and I love the little twist in the front.
If you want a sports bra with more compression and thicker material (less see-through) I’d check out the Vital Seamless 2.0 or the Fleck (which I’ll be posting a review on soon.)
If you want a comfy bra that’s also super cute and could be worn to the gym or lounging around the house… I’d say the Whitney collection is the way to go.
Whitney Oversized T-Shirt (dandelion brown)
I don’t have a whole lot to say about this one because, honestly, there’s nothing too special about it. It’s a basic oversized t-shirt that also happens to be really soft.
The material is fairly thin, so it’s a good option for workouts (especially outdoor workouts.)
It says “alive” on the back, which is a cute addition. But other than that, there’s not a whole lot going on.
As I mentioned in the “true to size” section above, definitely don’t size up on this. It’s already made to be oversized, so buy the size you normally do in t-shirts. Unless you want it super oversized… Then size up for sure.
Is Gymshark x Whitney Simmons Worth the Hype?
I would absolutely say the Gymshark x Whitney Simmons (V3) collection is worth the hype. My favorite part was the shorts. They’re so comfy, just like the rest of the collection, but the fit is also on point.
The detailing of all the pieces is subtle but gorgeous, and you can tell she put a lot of work into designing this collection.
The comfort factor is unlike anything I’ve ever felt from other Gymshark collections. I 100% would buy again just based on how soft these pieces are.
