I’m not gonna lie… Every time I see a new Gymshark Whitney Simmons launch, I get embarrassingly excited. Her Gymshark lines are always the comfiest, softest material. If you know me, comfort is always eons above everything else when it comes to clothes. Mary & I had to see how this collection lived up to the hype, especially compared to her previous collections with Gymshark. Let’s get into it!
Gymshark Whitney Simmons Review (Season 4)
In this unsponsored review, I’ll be answering all your questions.
- Are the shorts squat proof?
- How do these pieces work in the gym?
- What about compression, comfort, and material?
- Do the colors match how they look online?
- Size up or size down?
If you’d rather watch our full try-on and breakdown of these pieces, check out our video review!
Optimist Blue Shorts
Color: This color is absolutely phenomenal. It looks exactly how it does on the website. Maybe even more gorgeous in person.
Length: These shorts are a little longer than some other Gymshark shorts, since they’re cycling shorts. They hit a little above the knee, but you can scrunch them up if you want them shorter. I think they look cute either way!
Comfort level: SO soft and comfortable. I love lounging around the house in this set. I’ll work from home in this, go on walks, or run errands in it.
S4 vs. S3: The shorts are a bit different from the previous (S3) Whitney Simmons collection. The gold bar is on the side now, instead of in the middle.
The S3 shorts had a vertical stripe detail in the front, and the new collection has it diagonal in the back instead.
The new shorts also don’t have the “it’s a beautiful day to be alive” quote on the back waistline, like the S3 shorts did.

Scrunch bum = check. Really comfy! I’m not usually a fan of scrunch bum shorts because they are uncomfortable and give you a 24/7 wedgie. But these ones are actually comfortable and you don’t even notice the scrunch bum! But it gives you that little extra oomph. Win-win in my book.
Squat proof = check! I’m not sure if the lighter colors are, but the blue shorts are good to go in this department.
Compression: The compression isn’t great. If you want a heavier compression, I’d recommend looking at another Gymshark line, like Adapt.
Optimist Blue Sports Bra
Again, the color… WOW. The material is thinner (compared to other Gymshark lines) and buttery soft. SO comfy, I can’t get enough of it. Honestly, I wear this set weekly.
There are no removable pads in this sports bra. It’s double-layered (with a twist), so it gives you a little extra coverage. Thin material though, so it does show through a bit (not see-through, just a little nip outline action).
You can move freely in this bra. It doesn’t hug too tight anywhere, especially in the lats area, which is a huge win. I hate when sports bras squeeze your lats so tight that they leave red marks and you get that little armpit/back hangover. So uncomfortable. With these, it’s not a concern at all.
If you’re in between sizes, I’d recommend sizing down in the sports bra. I’m usually in between a small and medium in Gymshark sports bras.
On the first go around (S3) I bought a medium sports bra, and it was a bit too big. I still love it and wear it often, but it’s definitely looser. I bought a small this time and the fit is perfect! It’s tighter and holds me in, but doesn’t hug too tight anywhere.
If you want to see our sizing/measurements, check out our fit guide. (Only to help with finding the right size, not for comparison!)
There isn’t much compression on the sports bras either. Again, if you want a heavier compression, check out Gymshark’s Adapt collection.
S3 Leggings
I bought a pair of leggings (on sale!) from Whitney’s S3 launch. I’ll give a quick review of these since you’re mainly here for the S4 collection.
The leggings’ material and color are perfect. The color is called “eucalyptus” and it’s absolutely gorgeous.
I wear these leggings to work out, as well as out and about. They’re really cute so they can be worn as regular leggings with a casual outfit.
The material is fairly thin and it’s not 100% squat proof. It’s most of the way there (I’d say around 90% squat-proof) so I’m not bothered at all wearing them to the gym.
These are low compression as well. Definitely a more soft, comfy material.
Whenever they have previous Whitney collections on sale, I’d highly recommend buying them, if you’re curious to try out her line. I know it can be daunting to buy full-price items if you’re unsure if you’ll like them. So waiting for a sale of previous collections is the way to go!
They’re the same high-quality, buttery soft material. They’re also the same general style as the new collection. The colorways change with every launch. Honestly, I like the colors of the S4 launch the most. They’re bright, colorful, and fabulous. But if you want a more neutral color, there are some great options in the S3 launch.
Wildflower Purple Crop Top
Mary reviewed this crop top, as well as the palm green shorts and sports bra. I’ll give a TL/DR of her thoughts on the pieces here. But if you want her full breakdown, check out our video review!
She bought the purple crop top to go along with the green shorts for the “mermaid look”. It looks so cute!
The crop top was a bit big, which caused some wrinkles in the front.
They do have removable pads. There also ends up being a weird line horizontally across the boobs, like some of Gymshark’s other tops.
The color is fantastic. Honestly, all these colors are absolutely amazing.
The crop top is really comfy overall and so cute. Great for an upper body day, to see your gains. 😉
The buttery soft texture of all the pieces is similar to Balance Athletica. But a bit cheaper, which is definitely nice!
Palm Green Shorts
The green color is fantastic. The scrunch bum accentuates your butt a bit. These ones don’t give a wedgie like other scrunch bum shorts do.
Related: Do scrunch bum shorts actually work?
You can hike up the shorts to make them shorter, but it gives you a bit of a cameltoe and is an uncomfortable feeling. It ends up being tighter in the thighs if you hike up the shorts like the influencers do.
For a leg day, Mary likes to wear an oversized t-shirt, tucked into the back of her sports bra, with these shorts. A cute gym fit, if you need a new style to try out!
Post-workout (leg day): the shorts stayed in place at the waist and thighs, but they did ride up quite a bit in the bum. It does give a cameltoe, which is kind of annoying during workouts. You have to constantly pull the shorts down in the front.
They still look great and definitely boost your confidence.
Palm Green Sports Bra
The bra has a “T back”. The strap around the waist is a little looser than expected, but everything is still supportive. It’s not tight on the traps, which is SUPER nice.
Very nice all around. Your nips might show a bit though since it’s a thinner material and there are no removable pads.
Gymshark Whitney Simmons Collection: Final Thoughts
Overall, I absolutely LOVE this collection. It’s the most comfortable out of anything I’ve tried from Gymshark. Whitney always pulls through in the comfort department.
The colors are gorgeous, and I want a set in every color. (I don’t think my bank account would appreciate that, but a girl can dream…)
Pricewise, the pieces are reasonable, compared to Gymshark’s other stuff. The leggings are $50, shorts are $40, sports bras are $40, and crop tops are $45. There are other pieces in this launch as well, like a cropped pullover, oversized t-shirt, joggers, and even a gym bag! So many options to choose from.
