Hi guys! Long time no see. It’s been a busy couple of months. We went on our honeymoon in Europe (to London, Venice, and Rome), I saw Taylor Swift (somehow after refreshing Ticketmaster ALL DAY LONG we were lucky enough to get tickets), had friends visit, and more wonderful adventures. All that said, I haven’t had a single second to blog. Which is okay, life gets busy sometimes and everything comes in seasons. This has been a season of amazing fun experiences. I’m looking forward to writing a blog though after the time away! So, let’s get right into this Gymshark Elevate review…
Gymshark Elevate Review
This collection had been calling my name for months when it came out last year. I was trying to avoid buying any new gym wear (if you can’t tell, we have a LOT of it at this point). But I kept feeling like I was missing out on this particular collection.
I ended up asking for the leggings and sports bra for Christmas and fell in LOVE with the set. This collection is so cute and comfy. I honestly think it’s one of my favorite collections from Gymshark (appearance-wise). BUT that doesn’t mean it didn’t come with a few issues that I have to address…
Elevate Leggings
The set I got for Christmas included the Elevate leggings and longline sports bra (both in Lakeside Blue Spray Dye). The color and pattern of this set is gorgeous! It looks similar to a Lululemon set in my opinion, but less expensive.
Sizing:
I ordered everything from the Elevate collection in a Small. I normally buy Small sports bras/tops from Gymshark, but Medium leggings/shorts. I read that these leggings/shorts ran a bit big and had a good amount of stretch so I decided to size down. I’m glad I did because the small fits perfectly.
Functionality:
As much as I love the fit of these leggings when standing around, when actually working out, it’s a bit of a different story. They ride down like crazy. Even fitting seemingly perfectly, I can’t do a single set of ANY exercise at the gym (upper body or legs, doesn’t matter) without having to pull the leggings up after. I feel like I could be exposed at any time. Even a simple warm-up causes the leggings to ride down.
I will say, Gymshark Elevate is supposed to be a yoga collection. So initially when I noticed this issue when lifting or walking on the treadmill, I figured it was just because they weren’t meant for those workouts. BUT when I’ve done yoga (or simple stretches/warm-ups) they still ride down… It’s something to do with the material. It’s incredibly comfortable and flattering but can’t stay up to save its life.
These are lightweight and not heavy compression leggings. Very stretchy (but I haven’t noticed them getting overly stretched out) and comfortable. Breathable, flexible, and easy to move around in.
Squat Proof?
Yes, the blue spray dye leggings are totally squat-proof. I can’t speak on the lighter colors but these ones are good to go.
Overall Rating:
I’d give these Elevate leggings a solid 8/10. Everything is perfect except the constant falling down and needing to pull up the waistband. They’re cute, comfortable, flattering, gorgeous color/pattern, and are one of my go-to leggings. As much as I wish they stayed up better, I still find myself reaching for this set more often than not.
Elevate Longline Sports Bra
The second essential part of both sets (leggings + shorts) is the Elevate longline sports bra. Guys… I never want to buy a regular sports bra again. Gymshark honestly killed it with this sports bra. I’m always a bit uncomfy wearing just a sports bra to the gym. (Just a personal preference/comfort level. If you like wearing sports bras on their own, more power to you. It’s a really cute look, just not for me.)
Personally, the longline sports bra is the PERFECT length to work as a crop top. It hits just about an inch above where the high-waisted leggings/shorts stop on your waist. I will say, if you pull up the bottoms too high, it looks like you’re wearing a onesie. But still a cute look nonetheless!
The longline sports bra is lightweight, light support, and low compression. I’m small-chested so this works great for me. But if you need a higher support (or medium support) sports bra, this one isn’t a good choice.
An issue I’ve noticed with the sports bra is that your boobs feel like they’re going to fall out. I’ve never really had that problem before (being small-chested). But with this bra, I’m constantly pulling it up and checking down to make sure everything’s in check. It seems to be less of a problem if you keep the pads in. But I normally work out with them taken out and with this, I definitely need to stop doing that. It’s a bit uncomfortable if you’re not completely alone in the gym because you just don’t feel that secure.
Update: For some reason, I only notice this issue with the blue sports bra. The green set I bought months later (from the second launch of colors) doesn’t have the same problem. Maybe Gymshark noticed and fixed it after the first launch of colors? Or maybe it was just a fluke? Not sure. But I’m happy to not have the same issue with the green bra!
Overall Rating:
Aside from the falling out issue… I absolutely love this sports bra. I want to buy one in every color. It’s so flattering, comfortable, and cute. It moves well during any workout and fits great. The design is adorable and the colors are amazing.
I’d give this a 9/10. The only thing I’d take off a point for is similar to the leggings, that you have to pull it up fairly often. But that hasn’t stopped me from wearing it or picking it out instead of other pieces constantly.
Elevate Cycling Shorts
Guys… These shorts are phenomenal. I bought a second Gymshark Elevate set a couple of months ago (when they released new colors). I bought the cycling shorts and another longline sports bra, both in the Willow Green color.
These colors are just out of this world! I am completely in love with the willow green. It’s beautiful, subtle, and so flattering. Gymshark’s green colorways have been 10/10 recently.
I bought the cycling shorts in a small as well (since the leggings fit so well even though my normal size is a medium). The small fits perfectly.
I love the length of these. They’re an 8-inch inseam and give you more coverage than a lot of Gymshark’s other shorts, being cycling shorts and all.
I’ve bought cycling shorts from Gymshark in the past and didn’t love them. They were a different (more rigid) material, too heavy compression, and overall really uncomfortable. The prior pair I bought was far too tight in the thighs area (even though I bought them in a medium).
Sizing down in these Elevate shorts, they still fit perfectly and give you room to breathe throughout. They hug you in all the right areas but are stretchy enough to move around during your workouts. I would honestly wear this set every day if I could, I don’t have enough good things to say about it.
I’ve worn these for leg workouts (the real test of a pair of workout shorts) and they held up so well. For some reason, the shorts don’t seem to ride down nearly as much as the leggings. I’m not sure if they changed something in the second release or if it’s just the shorts vs. leggings. Either way, I’m not complaining.
They’re low compression and have a good amount of stretch. If I’d bought my normal size (medium) I think they’d be way too big. If you’re in between sizes, you can probably size down in these. (If it doesn’t fit, Gymshark’s return policy is really great/easy. So you can always buy two sizes and return the one that doesn’t fit.)
Overall Rating:
10/10. I honestly have nothing bad to say about these shorts. They’re comfortable, incredible in the gym, have gorgeous colorways, and are the perfect length for cycling shorts. Paired with the matching sports bra is a match made in heaven.
Extras!
Last Gymshark order, I also bought the Training Oversized Sweatshirt and the “Super Soft” T-shirt. I figured these would both pair well with the elevate sets, whether I wanted a t-shirt to wear to the gym, or a crewneck if it gets a bit colder outside.
I’ve been trying to buy most of my clothes in the same general color palette, so I can mix and match anything. For me, that’s been a lot of pastels, blues/greens, off-white, etc. Hopefully my plan works because I love all these pieces! It’d be great to be able to throw different tops/bottoms together.
Training Oversized Sweatshirt:
I hadn’t washed/dried this before taking the pictures so sorry for the wrinkles. 😉
After a month or so of having this, I wear it almost every day. It’s SO comfortable and soft. It’s very oversized. I bought it in an XS (normally I wear a small top) and it’s pretty oversized still. The length is still great though and the sleeve length is perfect (not too long.)
I wanted a neutral-colored crewneck so I bought this in Vanilla White (a cream-colored off-white). I absolutely love it and it matches everything. If you’re in the market for a comfy oversized crewneck, I’d highly recommend this one.
Super Soft T-Shirt:
As the name says, this really is a “super soft” t-shirt. One of the main things I look for when picking out activewear (or clothes in general) is comfort. Comfort and softness. This checks both of those boxes completely.
It’s marked online as “regular fit”, but it actually is a bit oversized. I bought this in an XS as well (normally a small) and it fits well/is still a bit big. So if you want an oversized look, get your size. If you want it to be more form-fitting, size down.
I bought the Thunder Blue color (a faded-looking teal) and absolutely love it! It matches with a lot of different colors and is overall a really pretty color.
I will say, the sleeves of this shirt are a bit odd. I don’t know how to describe it… You kind of feel like one of those birds whose wings are connected to its waist. Does that make sense? Probably not. Like a webbed wing situation. Where the bottom of the wing (or sleeve in this case) is connected to the waistline.
Anyway…
The price point ($34) is a little high for a t-shirt. But that’s inflation for ya.
If you’re looking for a soft and comfy t-shirt to wear to workouts or just out and about, this is a good option. I just wish they’d release more colors since it’s kind of limited at this point.
Update: I loved both the crewneck and t-shirt so much that I bought both in another color! (A gray crewneck and a light pink t-shirt.) Photos below!
