Within the last few months, I started writing down everything I ate and drank throughout the day in a food & fitness tracking journal. But I didn’t do anything with what I had jotted down. Frankly, I didn’t know what to do with the info I gathered. So I stopped writing in the journal altogether.
Using a Food & Fitness Tracking Journal
First of all, tracking your food intake seems very relevant if you want to gain muscle and lose weight. It’s also great if you feel stuck in a rut and want to get back on track!
Luckily, my co-author Erin posted about a food & fitness tracking journal in one of her earlier blog posts. I took the plunge and ordered it off Amazon and found that it was just what I needed.
FINDING BALANCE
If it isn’t obvious already (LOL), this is a food & fitness tracking journal (used for tracking). It was produced by “The Gentle Notebook”. It has a fun, floral pattern with a title on the front cover that says “Keep F***ing Going.”
The title is fitting because we often find ourselves wanting to give up too often. At least for me, that is the case from time to time. Fortunately, I have managed to find a groove that balances my fitness, eating, and chores.
So it has been relatively easy to keep the routine I have made for myself. But that’s not to say that I don’t lack the “I want to give up” attitude where I just sit on the couch and “relax” all day.
THE BEGINNING
Let’s dive into the journal and get to know what it has to offer. One of the first few pages consists of a heart progress tracker where you color in your day. If you completed a day you color it red, if you partially completed you color it yellow, and you skipped a day it is black (like our souls….jkjk).
Next you come to a page where you place a not so perfect picture of yourself to remind you that you are perfectly imperfect. They ask you what your goals are and how confident you are from 1-10.
Then they ask, where the f*** are you at? (There is a large amount of cussing in this journal, but I’m here for it.) So they have you measure your body and each week you remeasure and keep track of your gaaaains or losses lol.
Next, they have you right down 3 goals and how you will achieve those goals, and what are 3 things to kick start those goals.
THE GUTS
They briefly tell you how to use the journal with a one-page instruction manual.
Honestly, this journal is pretty straight forward, easy to follow along, and you can kind of create your own ish with how you keep yourself organized. Below I have a few of my days pictured so you can get an idea of what it looks like.
I have been using this journal for over 2 weeks and I am (no joke) loving it. I take this mfer with me everywhere I go, but wait until I am alone to jot down the details of my meal. It helps me stay accountable for the amount of Macros I would like to eat in a day, as well as how much water I still need to drink.
From time to time, I need a mental break from tracking. I get too caught up in the numbers and lose track of my end game.
Sometimes I will take several days off, not lose track of my eating habits, but give my brain a break from the amount of data it’s trying to keep track of. Sometimes breaks are good. Don’t forget that.
THE BACK OF THE BOOK
If you skip to the end of the journal, you will come across a page that says ‘my results’. This has you answer questions regarding if you achieved your goals or not and what you can do to improve.
It also comes with a weeks worth of fasting logs. (which I have not used) And one of the very last pages has a medication/supplements section where you can keep track of the things you put in your body for extra support. I don’t take enough extra vitamins/supplements to have to write it down.
SIMILARITIES
What this seems most similar to is MY FITNESS PAL. The pal is an app you can get on your phone/ipad where it automatically calculates your intake by what you enter.
Say you need 240C, 70F, and 150P (aka me). You would simply enter in the amount of food you are eating and what type, and it keeps a running total for the day. I believe you can also add in your water intake, and it sends friendly reminders to drink up!!
I enjoyed this app, but you honestly need to pay for the premium to get more detailed features. For now, I will just stick with writing in my food & fitness tracking journal. It helps keep me accountable in more ways than one.
You can buy the Keep F***ing Going Food & Fitness Tracking Journal on Amazon for under $10! It’s a great deal for how much detail you’re able to keep track of.
