I swear I had been hearing about Liquid I.V. everywhere I turned. “A drink that is 3x more hydrating than plain water? And has good flavor?? Sounds amazing!” But I didn’t want to just trust the advertisements, I had to try it for myself. Which brings me to my full Liquid I.V. review…
An Honest Liquid I.V. Review
If you’re thinking about trying this electrolyte & hydration multiplier but don’t know whether or not it’s worth it… You’re in the right place.
I was extremely skeptical about this product when I first heard about it. I had a couple of concerns:
1. What’s the difference between this and just drinking Gatorade? 2. How is it a “hydration multiplier”, what does that even mean?? 3. It seems a little pricey for an electrolyte drink if I’m being honest.
I’ll address all these concerns in this article, as well as new ones that came up when I was testing out Liquid I.V. I’m also going to talk about the benefits I discovered after drinking it for 2 weeks.
P.S. If you want to see more in-depth *honest* reviews from us, check out our reviews on YouTube! 2022 Edit/Disclaimer: I am now a Liquid I.V. affiliate, but was not at the time I wrote this review in 2020. I haven’t changed any of my statements about Liquid I.V. in this article since becoming an affiliate (besides the clearly marked add-in below where I tell you my favorite flavors) and still 100% agree with all of my opinions written.
My Struggles with Dehydration
I get dehydrated really easily. I’m on medicine that makes it easier to get dehydrated. I also drink lots of coffee and wine (both diuretics), which make it harder to stay fully hydrated.
I’ve always tried to cope with this by drinking a lot of water. (You can read all about the benefits of drinking water in this post). But honestly, the amount of water I drink doesn’t always cut it.
Especially on days when I work out or am outside in the hot sun a lot, it’s hard to stay hydrated. Even when I’m drinking over 64 oz of water a day.
I’ve been through phases of drinking a lot of Gatorade or different electrolyte drinks… But I always end up straying away from those for various reasons. Whether it be the taste, the sugar content, artificial flavors, etc.
When I heard about Liquid IV, I was skeptical but also excited. This could be the product that really turns my hydration problems around! I felt like I had been hearing great reviews about it all over the place, so I decided to give it a shot.
What Exactly is Liquid I.V.?
Liquid I.V. is a daily electrolyte drink mix that provides 2-3x the hydration of water. It uses CTT (Cellular Transport Technology) to quickly deliver hydration to your bloodstream.
I won’t get into the CTT talk much, because I don’t claim to be a scientist or hydration expert. But you can read all about the science behind Liquid IV in the science section of their website.
They have yummy flavors including lemon-lime, acai berry, and passion fruit. I’ve only tried the lemon-lime flavor, so that’s what I’m going to focus on in my review.
2022 Edit: As of now I have tried basically every flavor of Liquid I.V. If you have any questions about any of the flavors, drop them below in the comments & I’m your gal! To keep it simple, my absolute favorite is still lemon-lime, followed closely by apple cinnamon, watermelon & strawberry. (At this point, you can only get the apple cinnamon, strawberry, and other newer flavors on their website.)
Effects of Dehydration
Liquid I.V. states on their website that 3/4 of people are dehydrated daily. That statistic sounds crazy to me, but it proves that I’m not alone in my hydration struggles. Being dehydrated can cause headaches, muscle fatigue/cramping, brain fog, and more (1).
Especially if you live an active lifestyle (working out, being outside often), dehydration can easily impact you. Water alone doesn’t contain the electrolytes necessary for proper hydration. It’s important to have a combination of drinking enough water and getting the necessary electrolytes.
Dehydration can also cause overall fatigue, dizziness, dry skin, and bad breath (1). I know these symptoms sound awful to me (and they are when you experience them.) So I’m sure they don’t sound too appealing to you guys either.
Mary wrote a full post on the 7 reasons you need to be drinking more water. I’d give this a read as well if you want to learn more about the negative impacts of dehydration.
Why Staying Hydrated is So Important
Staying hydrated is essential to living a healthy lifestyle. It helps you to increase athletic performance, burn more calories, and be mentally alert & energized.
It also helps to reduce signs of aging, including wrinkling. Hydration helps with digestion & circulation, which affects your skin health. This helps you to look and feel younger (1).

My Experience with Liquid I.V.
I’ve been drinking Liquid IV every other day for 2+ weeks now. I’m sure the benefits would be increased if I drank it daily, but I wanted to ease myself into it.
I’ve been making sure I drink it before I consume any alcohol. This has been a major factor in why I will continue to buy Liquid IV and would absolutely recommend it.
Wine Headaches Suck
I’ve been struggling with bad hangovers and wine headaches for years now. In the past few months, it’s gotten exponentially worse.
I’m not sure if it’s due to moving to FL and having way hotter weather (aka sweating more)… But lately, every time I drink even a glass of wine, I’ll be basically useless the entire next day. I get such a bad headache and stomach ache that doing any sort of work is extremely challenging.
This went on for months and got to the point where I couldn’t ever drink more than one day in a row. And when I did drink, it would be a glass of wine or less. Even with this low amount of drinking, I would still get hungover often.
Liquid I.V. Drastically Decreased My Hangovers
The past couple of weeks while drinking Liquid IV, I haven’t been hungover or gotten a wine headache once. I’ve been drinking alcohol a lot more often this past week too. Pretty much every day, and a couple of times it was 3+ drinks a night.
I was still going outside and sweating daily. And I even increased the amount I was working out. I had previously only been working out 1-2x/week, but this past week I bumped it up to 3 times.
I drank Liquid IV every other day, either before I drank alcohol or during/after working out. The lemon-lime flavor is delicious and doesn’t taste artificial like some of the other electrolyte beverages out there. Since it’s so tasty, it makes it easy to drink daily (or every other day) because it’s something you enjoy drinking.
Impact on My Workouts
I’ve been struggling to work out regularly the past few months (you can read all about it here). During quarantine, the gyms have been closed, so I’ve been having a hard time motivating myself to workout at home. Since I’ve been working out so infrequently, my energy and perseverance drastically dipped.
This caused me to want to work out even less because when I did I would feel exhausted after 5 minutes. This was a combination of my own lack of motivation and my decreased energy levels from dehydration.
Once I started drinking Liquid IV during/after my workouts, I felt a huge increase in energy and perseverance. I wasn’t even expecting it, but fitness became less of a chore and started to be fun again! It felt like even though I was out of shape, I was crushing my workouts and feeling great after.
I just drank one pack of Liquid IV during my workouts and I would have lasting energy throughout. Then instead of feeling exhausted after I was done, I would feel more energized than I had before the workout.
I honestly didn’t expect this much of an impact on my fitness. I had tried Gatorade and other drinks before, but they didn’t have the same effect. I’m not sure what it is about Liquid IV that was so impactful on my workouts, but I felt a huge increase in energy & motivation.
The Downside
I said that I would talk about the pros and cons of Liquid IV, but honestly, I’m having a hard time coming up with any cons. As I mentioned above, this drink drastically decreased my hangovers, increased my energy levels, and improved my workouts.
If I had to come up with a downside, I would say that the price could be a little lower. Compared to other electrolyte drinks, you can find other brands that are cheaper.
But comparatively, nothing has worked nearly as well as Liquid IV did for me… So I guess you get what you pay for, right?
I could keep wasting my money on other electrolyte drinks that are a little cheaper… But they wouldn’t have nearly the same effect that Liquid IV has, so it would be silly!
Would I Recommend Liquid I.V.?
Absolutely, 10/10, I would recommend this product. Especially if you have experienced any of the dehydration symptoms I listed above (headaches, fatigue, muscle cramps…).
I’ve had an incredible experience so far with Liquid IV and would love for other people to share in that experience! I don’t like to keep amazing products to myself when I genuinely love them. This has been so impactful on my life (especially my fitness & energy), so I would hate to keep that impact to myself.
