I’ve been dying to try out Gymshark’s latest Adapt animal seamless leggings – the Butterfly collection! The colors and pattern in this collection are absolutely gorgeous, but honestly, it seemed too good to be true. So you know I had to try it out for myself (and for you 😉). I wanted to find out if these leggings are all they’re cracked up to be: squat proof? true to size? comfortable? I’ll get into all of that and more in this unsponsored Gymshark Butterfly leggings review.
Gymshark Butterfly Leggings Review
In this review, I’ll be sharing a full try-on of these leggings. Mary & I both did in the video below, so check that out to see how they work on different body types!
I’m a big fan of Gymshark and their Adapt collection is my absolute favorite. I was so excited when they launched these leggings because of how much I’ve liked previous Adapt pieces.
Throughout this Gymshark Butterfly leggings review, I’ll also cover:
- Are they squat proof?
- Fit (should you size up/down?)
- How they hold up in the gym & over time
- Comparison to other Gymshark leggings
- …and more!
Introduction – Gymshark Review
If you’ve been following along for a while, you know Mary & I are both obsessed with Gymshark. We’ve done a ton of reviews of their different collections.
While we highly support Gymshark overall as a brand, some of their launches can be a miss. We’ve had quite a few products we’ve bought from them that just weren’t great… This is even more so why we want to keep doing these reviews because sometimes, even your favorite brands can miss the mark.
One reason I love Gymshark (besides the quality of their clothes) is their core values. Their core values include being human, giving a shit, doing the right thing (and being honest/trustworthy), putting family first, and doing things the “Gymshark way.”
The “Gymshark way” means staying ambitious and refusing to forget the “garage mentality” that you started from. (1)
We feel like that at Vitality Vixens too and always want to work hard to continue achieving our goals, even when we’re out of the “garage.” We all start from somewhere and in the words of a great philosopher of our generation: “Started from the bottom now we here.” 😂
JK but not really. I love Drake. Anyways.
Grab your coffee (or wine, depending on when you’re reading this), and let’s get into the review!
The Gymshark Butterfly Leggings review
We’ve been drooling over the butterfly collection since they came out with it a few months back. Unfortunately, when they launched, it sold out almost immediately and we couldn’t get our hands on these leggings.
Lucky for us (and Gymshark’s profit margins 😂) they restocked and we were able to pick some up eventually. Just a little later than we would’ve liked for review purposes!
I got the teal leggings which you can see in the picture above. Mary got the light blue, which really looks like a light purple color in my opinion.
The first thing I noticed about these leggings is that they are THICK. Definitely a heavier compression legging and not ideal for an outdoor summer workout.
The thickness and heavy compression make these perfect for a heavy leg day or any other gym workout. You know you don’t have anything to worry about when doing squats because they’re 100% squat proof (in the colors we bought, anyway.)
The pattern on these leggings is obviously gorgeous, but you can see that for yourself, you don’t need me to tell you that. I can vouch for the fact that they’re just as cute in person and completely match what you see in the photos on their website.
The colors are just as bright and beautiful in person. These are some of my favorite leggings I’ve ever seen from Gymshark appearance-wise, just based on the design & colors.
how do they hold up in workouts?
I’ve worn these to the gym a few times now and would 10/10 recommend them for gym workouts.
I typically prefer a lighter, softer, less compression-heavy legging in general, and will choose comfort over everything. However, if you want a legging that’s going to keep you comfortable throughout intense gym workouts, you’ve gotta go for a heavier compression/thickness legging like these.
The only thing I’ll complain about with these is the scrunch bum. *Hot take, I know.*
Personally, I just don’t love scrunch bum leggings. We’re going to do an entire deep dive on this in a video soon, so be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel if you want to see that.
I just don’t think they’re as comfortable, I feel like I have a constant wedgie, and TBH am afraid they’re going to rip when I’m doing squats. That’s never happened in any of my scrunch leggings, just FYI, it’s just how I feel about the way they stretch when lifting.
They look amazing and are definitely flattering though, so it’s all up to personal preference on this.
Were the leggings worth keeping?
The Butterfly leggings are definitely worth keeping. I had no doubt once I put them on that I was going to love them and they’ve only proven me right time & time again through workouts.
They’re very similar to the Adapt Fleck collection, which we did a review on here.
If you’re looking for a heavier compression, thick, quality legging to rock at the gym – these are for you.
However, if you’re looking for a lighter legging to lounge around, run errands, or do outdoor workouts in, I’d stay away from these.
What do they cost?
The price of these leggings is $60. A little pricey compared to what I’d usually buy, but you really do get what you pay for. I can tell these are quality leggings and are going to hold up over time throughout many hard workouts. So if you’re looking at it from a cost-per-use standpoint, I’d say they’re worth the price tag.
I’ve only had these for about a month now and have worn them to the gym 3-4x, so of course, they’re holding up great so far.
I have high expectations for them to continue that way since I’ve had the Adapt Fleck leggings for months now and the Adapt camo shorts for about a year. Both of them have held up great with weekly wear through intense, sweaty workouts. I honestly haven’t seen any wear & tear with them yet.
If anything changes as I continue to wear these, I’ll post a comment below to update y’all. But I have high hopes, so I’m not expecting to have to do that.
Summary of the facts:
- Texture – Not a soft, buttery legging. Still very comfortable though.
- Color/Design – Absolutely one of the best I’ve seen from Gymshark so far. The colors are gorgeous and the pattern is just *chefs kiss*
- Thickness – 9/10 thickness. These bois are thicc.
- Elasticity – Fairly stretchy with enough breathing room, but not much to spare
- Sizing – True to size, but tighter in the waist than other Gymshark collections. Also, heavier compression, so if you’re in between sizes, I’d say size up.
- Length – We both ordered Mediums and it was the perfect length on Erin (5’3) but a bit short on Mary (5’9). You can see our full sizing guide here.
- Camel toe – Not a problem in my opinion since the material is so thick
- Squat proof – 100% squat-proof tried & true (at least the colors we bought)
- Scrunch bum – They do have the scrunch bum which makes anyone’s booty look amazing. I’ll share more thoughts on scrunch leggings in general in a future review…
- Cost value – These are $60 which is a bit on the pricier side, but pretty fair in comparison to Gymshark’s other leggings. I’d say they’re worth the splurge, in this case, because you’ll get a thick pair of leggings that’s going to make you look/feel great at the gym. The quality is incredible (from what I’ve seen in previous Adapt collections) so they’ll last you a long time.
Stay tuned for more honest legging reviews and other gym clothes! We love testing out all the collections from popular fitness brands for y’all, so you don’t have to. That way you can know what you’re getting yourself into before dropping $100 on a new set.
If you have any questions I didn’t cover in this Gymshark Butterfly leggings review, leave them in the comments! Or if you’d like to see us review a particular brand or collection we haven’t yet, let me know as well.
