I’ve been posting a new reading list for every season this year (check out my winter & spring reading lists!) For the summer, I wanted to come up with some lighter beach reads, to bring along to the beach or pool. No more thrillers (we’ll save those for the fall 🍂), intense non-fiction, or anything like that. We’re keeping it light & breezy to lay by the ocean with a pina colada, and get lost in a book this summer.
2022 Beach Reads
My first book selection might cause a bit of deja vu, because… It was on my spring reading list too.
I’ve failed majorly at reading the books I posted for spring. It’s been a really busy season and I haven’t had as much time to lay around and read. I know, excuses, excuses, but it’s true!
So #1 on my summer reading list is to finish The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
This book is incredible so far. I’m reading it on my kindle and am about 40% of the way through it. It’s the type of book that you get so immersed in the story, and feel like you’re a part of it.
I don’t want to give too much away, but I’ll share the description from Amazon (in case you missed it in the spring reading list 😉):
“France, 1714: in a moment of desperation, a young woman makes a Faustian bargain to live forever―and is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.
Thus begins the extraordinary life of Addie LaRue, and a dazzling adventure that will play out across centuries and continents, across history and art, as a young woman learns how far she will go to leave her mark on the world.
But everything changes when, after nearly 300 years, Addie stumbles across a young man in a hidden bookstore and he remembers her name.” (source)
This book is a NY Times Bestseller and recommended by basically every magazine out there.
I’d highly recommend it if you want to get lost in Addie’s “forgettable” and infinite life throughout the years, moving from a small town in France to the big city, NY.
People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry
This obviously falls into the “beach reads” category, solely by reading the title, and looking at the front cover.
I mean, if the people on the cover are reading on the beach, where else would you read this?!
Here’s part of the description from Amazon:
“Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.
Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.
Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.” (source)
This book seems lighthearted enough to be a beach read but also filled with some drama (which I love).
I don’t typically like books that are entirely about romance, so I’m hoping this has more to offer, and other storylines going on. We shall see!
If I like this one, I also think Book Lovers (by the same author) looks interesting… If it makes an appearance on the fall reading list, you’ll know this one was good.
Firefly Lane (#1) by Kristin Hannah
I watched Firefly Lane on Netflix about a year ago and fell in love with it. I know you’re supposed to read the book before seeing the TV show or movie, but I’m going in the opposite direction with this one.
Firefly Lane is about close friends with 30 years of ups and downs in friendship. Kate and Tully (the two main characters) seem like total opposites, but their friendship endures throughout their life and is pretty magical.
The Netflix series was amazing, so I’m hoping that I love the book just as much (if not more).
This Year’s Beach Reads
I’m only choosing 3 this summer after my failure to read all 4 books I chose for spring. If I get through these, I’ll pick some more!
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed these summer book selections. If you read any and love them, let me know in the comments! Or if you have other pool/beach reads you’re picking up this summer, let me know as well.
